# How to rename and delete files

## CMMC Share Links — Rename & Delete Guide

### Overview

Beyond downloads and uploads, CMMC share links now allow authorized users to rename and delete files directly inside FenixShare. These actions mirror other connectors while preserving CMMC-specific audit trails.

### Availability

* Appears on folder-based CMMC share links when you have edit rights.
* Primary users and collaborators with edit permission see the new options; view-only recipients do not.

### Renaming Files

1. Hover over the file row and choose `Rename`.
2. Enter the new name (the original extension stays intact) and confirm.
3. The change propagates instantly to the CMMC store and all active sessions.
4. The rename action is logged for administrators, keeping compliance records in sync.

### Deleting Files

1. Hover the file row and select `Delete`.
2. Confirm in the dialog—FenixShare removes the object from the CMMC vault.
3. The folder view updates once the backend finishes the deletion, and the event is captured in audit logs.

### Best Practices

* Use descriptive names that match your project or control requirements to simplify traceability.
* Delete only when you’re sure the file is no longer needed.
* If you lose edit rights mid-session, the buttons disappear automatically to prevent accidental actions.
